At its plenary meeting in Lisbon this week, the 3GPPⁱ completed the first 5G NR specification. That’s a new radio standard that will, for the moment, work alongside the LTEⁱ core network in so-called "non standalone mode". The work was part of the first drop of Release 15 – the cellular specifications that will define 5G.

Ericsson together with Qualcomm and in collaboration with 9 leading telecom operators conducted a multivendor 5G interoperability test compliant with the approved global 3GPPⁱ standard for 5G New Radio (NR) Non-standalone (NSA).

This talk covers the basics of Massive MIMOⁱ and recent results on how to deploy the technology, and how big the base stations will be. The speaker is Associate Professor Emil Björnson, Linköping University, Sweden.
