LTE user devices tripled in 12 months, 83 LTE smartphones announced so far

The number of LTE user devices announced in the market has more than tripled over the past year and 67 manufacturers have so far announced 417 LTE-enabled user devices, confirmed GSA. The figures include 83 LTE smartphones and 31 tablets. 68 out of 417 devices can operate in the TDD mode.

The majority of LTE user devices operate in the 700 MHz band driven by market developments in the USA, GSA puts this number to 193. Other bands 2600 MHz, 1800 MHz and 800 MHz also have increased focus as rollouts are happening in Europe and Asia. LTE devices in 2600 MHz spectrum (band 7) has increased by 85% since January 2012 to a total of 120 devices. There are now 98 1800 MHZ LTE user devices. As operators have increased focus on LTE roaming, number of  Tri-band( 800/1800/2600 MHz) LTE devices has significantly increased and GSA estimates it to 75.

According to GSA, 267 LTE devices also operate on either HSPA, HSPA+ or DC-HSPA+ networks. Within this figure, 109 LTE devices can operate on 42 Mbps HSPA+ systems. 126 LTE devices support operation on EV-DO networks.
