Lithuanian operators Tele2, Omnitel and Bite have been awarded a mobile license in Lithuania in the 2.6 GHz frequency band by Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA). This frequency is specifically suited for next generation mobile broadband (LTE). 

Tele2 considers the 2 x 20 MHz band license an important step to further develop its mobile operations. The frequency will become available as from 2012 and operator  will have rights to use it for the next 15 years.

In 2011 Omnitel launched 4G services using 1.8 GHz frequency band, which now have access to all major cities - Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Siauliai and Panevezys - population. 2.6 GHz licensed band segment will further accelerate the already-created Omnitel 4G network and will extend 4G services and opportunities.

Bite in Lithuania and Latvia is ready for the transition to a 4G standard and is continuing to test this technology, said the operator.
